Biography |

I was born in 1946 in a small town in Lancashire just north of Manchester. When I was six the family moved to Coventry and I went to infants and junior school there and had just started at the secondary school when the family moved again to Bedford. I went to two schools in Bedford and after "O" levels transferred to the technical school in Biggleswade (Stratton). "A" levels followed and I went to University in London (Northern Polytechnic) where I stayed for 6 years studying Chemistry to B.Sc. and then to Ph. D. level.
Initially I worked in scientific instrument sales and marketing firstly for Hilger and Watts in Camden Town in London and then for Varian Associates a Palo Alto, US based company, at their Walton-on Thames UK office. I then moved to Winsford in Cheshire as Marketing Manager for VG Isotopes Limited a manufacturer of isotope ratio mass spectroscopy. After I left, the VG group went through various incarnations.
In 1979 I started my own computer company U-Microcomputers Limited in Warrington. The company had ten interesting years selling Apple then IBM pcs and later designing and producing add-on products for these computers and even specialist computers and software such as chemical modelling but eventually closed in 1989. If you come across any of the products from the company then please let me know and I will probably pay for shipment so that I can add to my collection. I then spent four years with a medical implant startup company called Cardio Carbon Limited which was set up to exploit the "Angelini Mechanical Heart Valve". I ceased involvement in 1995 but as far as I know work continues on the project.
In 1994 I started the Internet Service Provider company U-NET Limited again based in Warrington and we had four very hectic and enjoyable years before selling the business to VIA net works Inc who unfortunately ended up being wound up in 2005/6 having frankly never understood the businesses they were in. The U-NET part of the business was sold to Clara Networks in 2005.
In 2006 with former U-NET colleagues I decided to go back into business again and we have set up Simply Mail Solutions as a mail and related functions hosting company.
I have been married twice - Jennifer Holly Stephens (b1946 - d1971) and Anne Lavinia Hazel Vaillant (b1948), divorced 2005. I have three daughters.
